Our dynamic ice storage system -"The
Jiyu Sekkei " -utilizes the more cost-effective nocturnal
electricity tariff to manufacture sherbet-like ice to stock up
a storage tank during the night. Use of this ice for air conditioning
and cooling during the day can cut back on energy costs.

Supercooling Heat Excahnger |
This system is made up of a chiller, a "Trans-pet"
closed system ice-maker, a supercooling heat exchanger, an ice
storage tank and some pumps. The water in the storage tank is
pumped into the heat exchanger and super-cooled to - 2 degree C by brine
supplied from the chiller. The supercooled water flows into the
Trans-pet. A two-phase fluid mixture of water and ice (ice-slurry)
is produced in the Trans-pet as the phase changes from supercooled
water to ice. The ice-slurry is then stored in the ice storage
tank. All these operations take place in a closed system without
exposure to the atmosphere. Therefore, the ice slurry produced
by the Trans-pet can easily be transported to the storage tank
wherever the tank is installed. Moreover this system can enhance
the coefficient of performance (COP) of the chiller at ice-making
through the use of a plate-type heat exchanger as the supercooling
heat exchanger that has a high heat-transfer performance. The
supercooling heat exchanger and the ice-making device have a maximum
ice-making capacity of 1,800 kW. Therefore, this system can be
used as a heat source for district heating and cooling plants.
Ice storage system "The Jiyu-Sekkei"
When supercooled water flows into the Trans-pet,
the ice-nuclei generator is activated and ice slurry is produced.
The ice- packing factor (IPF) of ice produced from supercooled
water of - 2 degree C is only 2.5% by weight. The pressure loss of ice-slurry
piping is the same as that of ice-excluding chilled-water piping.
